Roasting

The flavour of coffee is made up of a combination of different aromas and scents. In the roasting process, a coffee blend gets its own distinct flavour, which is a mixture of aromas, sometimes hundreds of them. The roasting process lures different aromas out of the coffee, such as nutty or roasted aromas. Take a closer look at our roasting process here.

Light roast or dark roast?

Roast degrees vary from one company to another. Paulig uses five different roast degrees. Number one is the lightest roast, while number five is a very dark roast.

Being a professional roaster

Our Vuosaari roastery is one of the most energy-efficient coffee roasteries in the world. Roasting is carried out using three roasting machines, each of which holds 550 kilos of raw coffee. Even though the roasting process is automated, the roaster is in charge of the entire process and works closely with the quality control and product development teams.

Reducing the impact of climate change by 40%

Here at Paulig, we want to reduce the impact on climate change of our operations by 40 per cent from the 2015 level by the end of 2020. Our goal is zero tolerance for wastage and landfill waste.
